Wine tasting on Sunday in Franschhoek: Grande Provence, Chamonix, Dieu Donne

It's always great to spend the weekends out in the winelands, but not all farms are open on Sundays, which can be quite annoying as that's is when most people are free. So, a few friends of mine and I decided to head out to Franschhoek in search of wineries open on Sunday.

Our first stop was Grande Provence. It's R50 per person to taste 8 wines (or R40 for 4), of which my favourite were the Chardonnay and Viognier/Chenin Blanc blend. They have a cozy fireplace and a cool intimate tasting room. It was pouring with rain, so we were grateful for the warmth!

The Winery is open for tasting from 10am to 6pm daily with Cellar Tours weekdays at 11am and 3pm (R15 per person).

We then headed to Dieu Donne, which has a great restaurant and cosy tasting room with a fireplace.
The tasting room is open until 4pm, 7 days a week.
The Roca Restaurant offers great hearty dishes on their winter chalkboard menu, such as braised lamb shanks, eisbein and slow-roasted pork belly.  The view from the restaurant overlooking the valley is also phenomenal.

Chamonix was our last stop. They are open 7 days a week until 5pm for sales and 4:30pm on Sunday for tasting. Tastings are located in The Blacksmith's Cottage, built in the late 18th Century and converted into our comfortable tasting venue. Tastings are from R20 per person.
Their Troika (red blend) and Pinot Noir are absolutely amazing...
