Did you know? Halloween (1978) was shot in 21 days on a budget of $320  000, and became the highest-grossing independent movie at that time. Get ready for spine-chilling film thrills at the South African HorrorFest (Labia Theatre, Gardens). The programme includes new movies, cult classics, sneak previews, short films, Halloween dress-up prizes, horror DVD collections, plus dark art and photography exhibitions. A highlight not to be missed is the live- music soundtrack performance to the screening of a classic silent horror movie by The Makara Ensemble (members of Terminatryx, Lark and violinist Matthijs van Dijk). Did you know? The Edmonds Community College kite team holds the record for flying a single-line kite for 180 hours and 17 minutes in 1982 in Washington, USA. ‘Uplifting Mind and Body’ is the theme for the 16th Cape Town International Kite Festival – Africa’s biggest, which attracts pros from around the world and over 20  000 visitors for kite-making, kite-flying, food stalls, kiddies’ rides, an eclectic craft market and live entertainment on the lawns of Zandvlei (Muizenberg). Entry is R15 adults, R5 children – and all profits go to Cape Mental Health.
